DIY Window Trim!

How to add architectural interest to your windows in any room.

You'll need:

  • Wood (length depending on the size of your window)
  • Brad nails
  • Hammer
  • Wood Screws
  • Trim caulk
  • Paint
  • Jigsaw

Start with the window sill first,

Cut the width of the window plus 10 inches to leave an excess of 5 inches on either side of the window.

Hold it against the bottom of the window to mark where to cut the corners to fit the window base.

Once it fits, use brad nails to attach it.

Hold your pieces of wood on each side of the window, on top of the window sill you just attached, to mark your length. (or use a measuring tape)

Once cut, attach with brad nails.

Now it's time for the header.

Cut the length, the same as the window sill. for a custom look, you can cut 1x2, two for the top & bottom of the header. Attach with wood screws.

Use brad nails again to attach the header to the top of the window, make sure it's level and secure.

If there are any small gaps you can use caulk to fill in where needed.

Make sure all nails aren't sticking out, cover nail holes and wood knots with caulk until smooth.

Then simply paint white.
