A new roof is designed to last for decades — but that doesn’t mean you should completely ignore it. According to Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List, the roof should be regularly inspected to avoid costly damage.

“Inspecting your roof regularly will help you determine if there are leaks from your roof,” she told the station wbay.com. “You want to be sure to check a leak and fix it as quickly as possible, because if you don’t, it can lead to structural damage in your home, and also mold.”

What are the four signs to look out for? Hicks suggests the following:

• Curling shingles
• Broken shingles
• Missing Flashing (aluminum or galvanized steel)
• Areas where water may be pooling

Experts recommend having an inspection of your roof at least every five years. You should also always enlist the services of a licensed professional.

Moisture - Moisture will lead to mold and mildew and all of this will begin to cause rot. The worst part is that it can develop into a deeper problem if it begins to also get into the walls and pose a threat to the structure of the house.
